Be The Change!

Free The Children is taking part in the New York City Half Marathon on March 17, 2013. We're working with our friends and supporters from New York to assemble a dream team of runners to support a special project.

Help us raise $10,000 to make a difference in Mwangaza, Kenya!

How You Can Help

Support our team at the New York City Half Marathon on March 17th! Our goal is to raise $10,000 for a drip-irrigation system in the community of Mwangaza. A drip-irrigation system helps distribute water to the roots of plants while conserving the amount of water used. It will help the community grow plants and crops at the local school that will also be used as a reliable source of food for the students. Please give generously and help us make a difference in Mwangaza!

Adopt a Village in Mwangaza

Free The Children has been operating in Kenya since 1999, working with both Kipsigis and Maasai communities. Through Adopt a Village, they have engaged many communities across the Mara and built over 150 schools, libraries, water projects, latrines, kitchens, teachers’ accommodations and more. Located in the Narok South District of Kenya, Mwangaza is comprised of four villages, and became a Free The Children community in March of 2011. Though largely populated by Kipsigis families, Mwangaza is located at the boundary of both Maasai and Kipsigis land. Over its long history, the community has faced many challenges including high illiteracy rates, child labour, inadequate access to health care, water scarcity and food insecurity. In spite of these difficulties, the community’s greatest strength – its determined people and their dedication to their children – has helped them overcome countless obstacles. From rallying together to purchase the original plot of land that the school was built on to forming an active School Management Committee invested in their children’s future, the people of this community have never stopped believing in a stronger, more sustainable future for their children. Free The Children in partnership with the community is dedicated to improving their access to quality free primary education, health care, clean water and sanitation facilities and awareness, sustainable livelihood opportunities and food security.
