Despite being separated from her parents at a young age and living in an orphanage for four years and 30 different homes, Quebec native Diane Goullard (Parlante) has accomplished a lot. After earning a baccalaureate in
music at the University of Montreal in Canada (working several jobs to pay her way through life and through school), she entered ASU graduate school in 2004 and received a master’s degree in French literature from ASU, in addition to a school-wide award in translation. Diane, nicknamed “Frenchie” by a few ham operators who initiated her to Morse code and ham radio, also has worked as a freelance interpreter since 1984 and wrote a book, “Beyond Words: Getting to the Heart
of Communication in One or More Languages for the 21st Century,” which was published in 2004
