EVENT DATE: Nov 03, 2013
I am finally running my first Marathon in New York on Sunday, November 3, 2013! Many of you know how important running has been to me, but not as many of you know how important Camp was to me as a kid. To those of you who shared my Camp Potawotami experience and to anyone else who had similar experiences as a kid, please help me raise money for my 2013 Marathon charity, the Fresh Air Fund.
Since 1877, the Fresh Air Fund has made a difference in the lives of over 1.7 million children from New York City's neediest neighborhoods by providing them with free outdoor summer experiences. Every summer 3,000 inner-city kids get to run around a 2,300-acre camp site in Fishkill, New York. Many of these kids have never before run barefoot in grass, roasted marshmallows around a campfire, or swam in a lake.
I cannot imagine how different my life would have been if I hadn't spent so many summers canoeing on Blackman Lake and eventually serving with some of my oldest friends as a camp counselor to later batches of campers.
Please help me ensure that a few more kids enjoy the summer camp experience, which I think has immense potential for character-building and achievement opportunities. Every dollar helps and I assure you that you'll find the summer sunshine a little more fulfilling if you help me support this worthwhile cause!
ONE LAST THING -- If you are a runner or just a music enthusiast, please leave me the names of your 1-2 FAVORITE running/workout songs in the "Comment" section. I will be compiling a playlist of all suggestions and will share it via Spotify / Facebook before I use it to keep me going during the Marathon. If you all participate, we'll all be able to share a crowdsourced workout playlist!
