BENEFITING: The Fresh Air Fund
ORGANIZER: The Fresh Air Fund
EVENT DATE: Mar 20, 2016
On March 20, 2016, I will be running the NYC Half Marathon to support The Fresh Air Fund. Since 1877, The Fresh Air Fund, an independent, not-for-profit agency, has provided free summer experiences to more than 1.8 million New York City children from low-income communities.
Last summer, more than 4,000 children visited volunteer host families in suburbs and small town communities across 13 states from Virginia to Maine and Canada. Each year, 3,000 children also attend five Fresh Air camps on a 2,300-acre site in Fishkill, New York. Youngsters learn how to swim, go on overnight hiking trips and participate in dance and art classes. Many of these kids have never run barefoot in the grass, caught fireflies or gone swimming in a lake. It means so much to me to be part of a team that is creating new possibilities for these kids.
This will be my 12th half marathon. This particular race is deeply personal to me because seven months ago, after hitting a couple of bumps in the road, I was on the sidelines and wasn’t sure I would get another shot at running another race like this. Thanks to some great doctors and the support of my friends and family, I’m on the other side …..facing new possibilities of my own. March 20 also happens to be my birthday - - I can’t think of a better way to celebrate my comeback.
The Fresh Air Fund could use your help. I would love it if you would consider joining the team by making a donation that will help send inner-city children to camp this summer. Thank you for your consideration. It means so much to me and to the Fresh Air children. For more information, please visit The Fund’s website at www.freshair.org. All donations are 100% tax-deductible.
