BENEFITING: The Fresh Air Fund
Remember your summer vacations?
Doesn’t every kid deserve that kind of fun?
Since 1877, The Fresh Air Fund, a not-for-profit agency, has provided free summer experiences in the country to more than 1.7 million New York City children from disadvantaged communities. Each year, thousands of children visit volunteer host families in 13 states and Canada through the Friendly Town Program or attend one of five Fresh Air Fund camps.
Fresh Air Fund depends primarily on support from private contributions. It cost The Fresh Air Fund $986.00 for a child to visit with a volunteer host family and $1542.00 to send a child to Fresh Air camp.
I was one of these kids up-rooted from the Bronx every summer starting at the impressionable age of nine for about six years. I can't say enough about how the Fresh Air Fund opened my eyes to the world outside of the city streets. It most definitely change my outlook on life and decisions made as a young adult. Lets help continue this GREAT opportunity for inner city children.
