Join us in filling baskets with fresh, fall bounty for area families in need this Thanksgiving, while supporting local farmers in the process.
A $40 donation will fill a basket with a turkey and all the nutritious fixings from local farmers for a traditional Thanksgiving meal. We have set a goal to fulfill the need for a healthy Thanksgiving at 40 families in the underserved communities of Detroit and Pontiac, but need your help to do so. Consider forgoing a meal out this week and donating that money to ensure our neighbors in Metro-Detroit are able to gather around the table with satisfied stomachs and full hearts this Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving is a time for families to gather together and share a meal, but for many in the Metro-Detroit community, access to healthy, affordable options is an ongoing hardship and the holidays come as an added cost, not a reason to celebrate. Many families in our target communities of Detroit and Pontiac find themselves living amidst a food desert, where it is easy to find a convenience store, but nearly impossible to find a spot that sells fresh produce. Financial hardship, alongside accessibility and lack of transportation, provide insurmountable limitations to families in the community that desire the same opportunity to provide a nourishing Thanksgiving for their loved ones.
We have the power to change that!
The Fresh Food Share (FFS) is a community food program run through Gleaners that provides affordable access to fresh produce, increased nutrition knowledge and support for local farmers. The FFS program is offered at sites throughout Detroit, Hamtramck, and Highland Park and Pontiac
