Friends and Family in Support of Martha
Organized by: Hanna Hart
My sister Martha needs our help. Diagnosed with colon cancer in 2014, in the last two and a half years she has endured colon surgery, liver surgery, six months of brutal chemotherapy, and lung surgery. On top of that, she has also undergone surgery to mend a broken hand, ear surgery, and a hernia repair. Now she is facing another round of chemotherapy this summer. In addition to the physical and emotional toll of treatment, Martha has for long stretches been unable to work as a substitute teacher, her main source of income. Widowed in 2006, she and her daughter Molly have very limited income and depend on the small income that teaching provides. Our parents have helped a lot, but now we are appealing to friends and extended family to pitch in and help Martha and Molly with their living expenses until they can get back on their feet. They will use the money to help pay their mortgage and bills, buy groceries, and cover any uncovered medical bills. We are hugely inspired by Martha's remarkable physical and emotional resilience, and we know there are tough times still ahead. She continues to express her hope, determination, and gratitude daily. She is a gift in my life and in the lives of all of her friends, students, and family. You can help now by making a donation. We are grateful for gifts in any amount to support Martha and reduce her financial worries.
