Thirty years ago, a small group of people came together to do something about the Rouge River. The Rouge River had become so polluted that the local media declared it officially dead. Friends of the Rouge began bringing people to the river for the annual Rouge Rescue event and people began to care. K-12 students began learning about the river through a water quality monitoring program called the Rouge Education Project.
The efforts of thousands of people have paid off and the river is beginning to recover. Paddling and fishing is becoming a reality. Yet, water quality is still very poor in some areas. Friends of the Rouge needs your help to continue to work to restore this urban river for all to enjoy.
