City of Angels ~ Walk/Run with the Angels TEAM Friends of Zachary Len
July 26, 2016
Zachary Len, grew up in a beautiful town in New Jersey. Zach and his sister, Katie, went to good schools, had loving parents and both Katie and Zach were full of potential. As Zachary went off to college he was ambitious about his future and determined to be successful. Zachary played hockey, had tons of friends and he loved music... But he also started hiding a horrible secret that would eventually destroy all he had built for himself. Zachary started dabbling with prescription pills in college. But Zachary's dabbling turned into something way bigger... Zachary soon became addicted. Zachary went to detoxes, rehabs, inpatient centers, outpatient centers... He always would start off so determined to kick his habits to the curb and continue his life. He was a talented chef and loved what he did. But again, kicking this habit is not easy, and without fail, he always seemed to get sucked back in. In January of 2014, we entered the new year with hopes of a great one... never knowing that weeks later our lives would be completely changed forever. On January 19th 2014 Zach entered detox... He came back home on January 25th... He had his very last conversation with his sister on January 27th standing in driveway, his last words to her being, "I can't wait to hear all about it." The next day our nightmare became reality as Zachary was found lifeless in his room... Since that day we have learned so much from Zachary ... we have learned what strength, determination, and struggle really looked liked. We learned that addiction affects everyone, and no one is safe... But more importantly we learned that we had a bigger purpose to help educate and spread the word. On September 10th, we will be doing our 3rd annual 5k run/walk in Zachary's memory for an amazing organization called City of Angels. City of Angels is committed to helping those who suffer from the disease of alcohol and/or drug addiction. The losses associated with addictions are devastating and City of Angels has been there for the addict and their suffering families. They were the first-ever “all volunteer community organization”, as they established and still maintain a no charge policy for our support services. They offer many services for the families, but most of all they offer HOPE. Please consider joining our team, Friends of Zachary Walk with the Angels 2016 in memory of Zachary or making a donation to this amazing organization. And to Zach, you'll always be with us... You're changing and saving lives everyday and your memory will continue to inspire us to keep helping others.
