Friends helping Arlene fight her Cancer
Organized by: Joe Handy

This is one of my favorite photos of Arlene. It's old and grainy, but it captures her kind spirit and lovely smile perfectly.
Our friend Arlene is now undergoing treatment for cancer. In addition, she is contending with the aftermath of a recent devastating surgery that left one side of her face paralyzed and caused throat and vocal cord damage. The doctors had thought she would regain nerve function, but have now determined she likely will not. It's difficult for her to swallow food or speak clearly.
Despite so much adversity, Arlene has done an incredible job becoming an advocate for her own health, but her insurance only goes so far. She has to go outside of the system for costly facial reconstructive surgery and now it looks like she will have to finance her immunotherapy treatment as well. It's a mountain to climb, an astronomical financial burden, and she can't do it alone.
I've organized this plea so that Arlene will be able to put her life together again and return to her home in Georgia. I especially want to help her get her smile back. Some people only know Arlene through her art. Some, like me, have been fortunate to call her a friend in life. Either way, if you are moved to help with a donation of any amount, or if you can spread the word to your friends, we thank you.
With gratitude, Joe Handy, FOA (friend of Arlene)
