BENEFITING: FRIENDS OF THE CALLAHAN SENIOR CENTER
EVENT: Boston Marathon 2014
EVENT DATE: Apr 21, 2014
Congratulations to Brianna Stefanini and Melissa & David Wells for successfully finishing the Boston Marathon on April 21, 2014 with impressive finishing times!
Thanks to their efforts and your donations, nearly $6,000 was raised to support the Friends of Callahan Senior Center-Continuing Connections program. We so appreciate the hours and miles of training they logged in the months leading up to the race as well as on Marathon Monday, itself and the time they spent recruiting donations from all of you. Thank you all so much! If you have not contributed yet, you still can send a donation to the Friends of Callahan up until May 31, 2014.
Continuing Connections provides guided exercise, art and music therapy, pet therapy, counseling and other activities to residents of the MetroWest community, in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease and their carepartners, one day a week, entirely free to the participants.
The goal of the program is to continue the connections that remain intact and offer educational, professional and peer support for the carepartners who struggle with the myriad of challenges presented by this disease. Many people dealing with Alzheimer’s become isolated from their friends and families and refrain from doing such things as going to restaurants or visiting museums. These activities and others offered by Continuing Connections have proven to have a beneficial effect on both the person with the diagnosis and the one caring for them.
