My goal in 2013 is to raise $100,000 (ambitious I know) for Friends of the Children. This amazing organization provides children from high-risk communities with 12 years of transformative mentoring relationships. Their ultimate goal is for these children to graduate from high school and succeed in college. Having worked with many kids from these communities as a junior college football coach, I understand the importance of providing children resources and support they need to overcome obstacles they face to reach their full potential.
To achieve this goal I plan on having a series of monthly fundraisers throughout the year. Each fundraiser will vary from volunteering to extreme physical challenges. The idea is to participate in at least one activity per month and encourage as many friends as possible to get involved.
By the time its all said and done I estimate I will have run 1,000 miles (you can track here… http://nikeplus.nike.com/plus/profile/theRyanGray/), biked 1,000 miles, swam 100 miles, lifted 100 hours, volunteered 100 hours and hopefully partied a couple hours along the way.
Below is a tentative list of activities. Let me know if you have any interest in participating!
- New Year’s Day Polar Bear Plunge (Jan 1)
- Huntington Half Marathon (Feb 3)
- Birthday Kickoff Party (Feb 23)
