Friends of Gene Lee
Organized by: Nicole Lee
Gene Lee is a native Chicagoan, having been born and raised in Chicago's Chinatown where he still lives today. He has served the community through his career as well as through his personal efforts for more than 40 years.
Forty years ago, Gene combined his interest in basketball and his passion for the community by starting the Chinese Dragon's Athletic Association, known today as the Chicago Dragon's Athletic Association. With humble beginnings, the Dragon's provided a safe haven for young men and women in Chinatown from the streets and taught them sportsmanship and civic responsibility through basketball and community service. Later the organization added cultural heritage through traditional Chinese Lion Dancing.
The Dragon's remain an active part of the community in Chinatown through basketball leagues and camps for kids. Dragon alumni are actively involved in the leadership of the Chinatown Special Events Committee which produces the Chinatown Summer Fair.
Gene's legacy lives on through his children and the hundreds of people he has mentored throughout his forty year career as a community leader and public servant with the City of Chicago.
Friends of Gene Lee seeks to support Gene and his family while he awaits sentencing on a case brought against him by the Federal Government. Gene and his family are now faced with mounting legal bills.
Contributions made to this fundraiser will help pay legal fees and other expenses associated with Gene's case including but not limited to court fees, restitution and fines.
