THE STORY:

THE CAMPAIGN IS OVER - THANK YOU FOR PARTICIPATING. WITH MATCHING PRIZES FROM THE SKOLL FOUNDATION, WE RAISED OVER $78,000! IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SUPPORT ECOPEACE MIDDLE EAST, PLEASE VISIT OUR DONATIONS PAGE ON OUR WEBSITE

Water is at the center of the humanitarian crisis facing Gaza, with limited water supply and wastewater treatment – only exacerbated by the violent events of the summer. Palestinians in the West Bank lack an equitable supply of water and sanitation services, while Israelis face contamination of shared water sources by untreated wastewater.  This reality is a threat to human and environmental health and we cannot wait any longer.

To raise awareness amongst decision makers and the public on the urgency of water and environment issues in Israel and Palestine, EcoPeace Middle East launched a campaign titled “Water Cannot Wait”, calling on political leaders to reach a final water agreement.

Restarting negotiations on water and sanitation makes economic, ecological, and most importantly, political sense. The agreement would be a Final Accord on Water, replacing the current, failing interim agreement set by the Oslo II Accords, and would bring increased fresh water availability to every Palestinian while removing waste pollutants in rivers and streams that run through Israel, Palestine and Jordan

This agreement will not only be a win/win for both parties, but it will also help build the trust necessary for tackling the more challenging final status issues.

We need your help. We are looking for funders to invest in our upcoming campaign objectives.

Thomas Friedman, an expert journalist on Mid-East peace, published an OP-ED this week, in which he turned to EcoPeace Middle East as the model for cooperation and peace in the region.
