On April 9....my mother's 65th birthday, a fire started in Marfa, Texas and quickly got out of control and a huge wall of fire headed to my hometown of Ft Davis, Texas, a picturesque community of 1,000 people at the foot of the Davis mountains. All townspeople were evacuated and my mother....who has owned a restaurant there for 36 years....had to close her business and leave the town. Everyone was left with no utilities....horrible landscape......livestock and horses and many animals perished in the fire as it spread so rapidly and they were unable to outrun it. It is a devastating blow to this small tourist and ranching community. Though immediate needs are mostly met at this time and fire is officially out, the long-term ramifications of the losses will be felt for ears to come...you can find out a lot about this tragedy by googling Ft Davis wildfire or directly searching the facebook site for Ft Davis fires. I am not very good at loading all this stuff onto this site and feel so helpless as I live in Austin, Texas and all my family....in Ft Davis.....lives 425 miles to the southwest of me. The name of our family business is Cueva de Leon restaurant. Though this horrible tragedy happened on my mother's 65th birthday....she refused to stay gone from the town and insisted she had to go back because "she had things to do". I am trying to do something....anything ....to help. My mothers name is Lorina Wells and she can be reached at 432-249-0752. They are such a small commmunity and their financial losses....due to the restaurant being closed for first the evacuation and then lack of utilities...will be hard to bear....considering they just mostly eke out a living out there in the last frontier anyway. The ranchers need help rounding up their remaining livestock....burned animals need tending to....hay and feed are needed since so much grassland is now scorched earth. PLEASE....help. They have a paypal site set up at www.jeffdaviscountrelief.org
