Race Judicata is an annual 5K run/walk, hosted by the Student Bar Association of Brooklyn Law School and SLJ's Junior Board. All proceeds from the race are donated to the Urban Assembly School for Law and Justice, in memory of the late BLS Professor Barry Zaretsky.
Race Judicata 2017 will take on Sunday, April 30 in Brooklyn Bridge Park. Registration and check-in will begin at 10:00 am, and the race will begin at 11:00 am. All are welcome to run, walk, or cheer.
SLJ is a public high school that serves a population of low-income students of color—70% live at or below the poverty line, and 75% will be the first in their family to go to college. SLJ does not screen its students, meaning that it accepts incoming 9th graders irrespective of academic ability, and through its three pillars of education—intensive academic instruction, robust enrichment offerings woven into the curriculum, and individualized college preparatory support—gives them the tools to create a brighter future for themselves. Last year, 96% of the senior class graduated and 100% were accepted into college.
Brooklyn Law School has partnered with SLJ since its inception. The Student Bar Association has been committed to helping raise funds to deliver the enrichment programming and college and career services that the school would not otherwise have the resources to provide.
Donations in support of the runners/walkers can be made through SLJ's non-profit partner, the Adams Street Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization. Cash and checks will be accepted on the day of the race.
