BENEFITING: FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH OF CHULA VISTA
EVENT DATE: Jan 12, 2017
GREAT NEWS: We were able to reduce the total needed through this campaing from $15,000 to $7,350 due to gifts that we received direct to the church. this means we are already half way to funding this misison trip. Read below and consider helping us make it all the way!!
Homelessness, food insecurity, poverty level wages, lack of health care, sub standard education and poor living conditions....any one of these leads to a mountain of challenges in life; now imagine if your family suffered under all of them at the same time. This is the case for many people in the regions of Northern Mexico as they migrate north and eventually bump into a border/immigration boundary at the US border and get "stuck" in Northern Mexico along with millions of others. Not only are the families overwhelmed but also are the governmental systems leaving little hope for life. At First United Methodist Church of Chula Vista we understand that one of our biblical mandates is to care for our neighbor and being only 7 miles north of the US/Mexico border means these people are our neighbors. This year, as we have in the past five, we will send a team of ~30 people to Ensenada, Mexico working with YUGO Ministries to build two homes for families that are now homeless. this home means more money for food, improved health, less likelihood of a broken family, better conditions for the kids meaning better performance in school and more. FUMCCV does work throughout the year to serve this population, but the winter mission trip has become the centerpiece of this work. It is a powerful experience for the family receiving the home and perhaps even more powerful for the builders of the home -- realizing that we really do have the ability to drastically altar one another's life for the good is a great lesson to learn. Our team will include professional builders, people who have no idea what they are doing, retired folks, young kids working alongside their parents, multiple generations of one family, college students, men, women......all taking time away from work, school and family and all paying to be a part of the experience. The fundraising we will do is to purchase building materials for the construction project and basics for the homes like beds and a kitchen table.
