Fund D's Immigration Fight
Organized by: Natasha Ruelas
My friend D is the most wonderful woman with the most beautiful heart. She really looks out for everyone around her and she hates to be a burden. She was abused in Mexico her whole life because of her identity as a trans woman. The cartels made her pay them every week to avoid being beaten. When she could no longer pay, they tortured her. She lived through it, but they found her again and beat her so badly they almost killed her. She was back in her hometown taking care of her mother when she got a call from the cartel that if she did not pay them immediately they would kill her and her whole family. She tried to move to a different city in Mexico, but the cartel had people there too. So she took a bus to the US border and lined up and asked for protection. The people at the border believed her story, because her body was proof, but they detained her immediately. She has been in the detention center for over 9 months now. She hasn't been able to talk to her family. Her pro bono lawyers got the judge to let her out if she can raise bail, but it is $3500.00. I want to bring D to live with me, but I am disabled and have no money. I also need to travel from Florida to the West Coast to get her. D lined up at the border with nothing because she is an honest person. If we can raise $3500 we can get her out of the detention center, which is like a jail, so she can fight her asylum case. Please help!
