Global education system failures—Why quality education matters
Facts: Did you know that 250 million children still can’t read despite having attended school for years*? That the US comes 13th among the top 22 technology rich countries in its average for literacy**?
It is common to think that providing access to education is key in advancing civilization; it is partly true. However, lack of quality education leads children to an illiterate, unstable and most likely poor future. We can address that by providing children access to quality education, utilizing the proven system designed and supported by Fundación Escuela Nueva (FEN).
We at FEN have been preparing children for the 21st century skills whether in rural or urban learning settings, to function at a high level in collaborative, participatory and cooperative learning environments transforming conventional teacher-centered learning to enhance teachers’ effectiveness and true role. We also promote a child-centered, participatory learning approach with a flexible promotion mechanism that allows children to advance from one grade to another and complete academic units at their own pace. By placing the student at the center of the learning experience and involving the community, parents and local environment in their learning success we instill strong democratic and peaceful cohabitation values. For the past 30 years, over 5 million children from close to 20 countries benefited from our methods, but we are still far from addressing the world´s need. We need you!

Our aim for this Challenge is to raise funds for 5 Colombian primary schools that educate 1,000+ children, at a cost of $25 per child. But we don´t want to stop here!
All funds will be invested in training and follow up strategies for teachers to improve their pedagogic practices, participatory engagement activities with families and communities and very high quality educational materials for the students and their classrooms.
