Help us raise money for a youth camp that focuses on preventing the commercial sexual exploitation of minors!
This summer I am interning for an organization called La Fundación Rahab (The Rahab Foundation) in San José, Costa Rica. This organization rehabilitates women, men, and adolescents who are victims of sex trafficking or who participate in the commercial sex industry. They offer services that restore families to help reintegrate them into society through spiritual attention, education, nutrition, psychological assistance, and vocational training. Rahab has helped more than 3,000 people in the San Jose area, provided 16 houses, and trained over 5,000 government leaders, police, tourism workers, and youth in human trafficking issues.
The Rahab Foundation offers a youth program that works with adolescents that live in impoverished neighborhoods and are at high risk of becoming involved in the sex industry. Many of these children's family members are directly involved in the sex industry or with substance abuse, increasing their chances of also becoming involved. Through weekly daycare and weekend programs, the foundation provides a support system, spiritual guidance, prevention assistance and vocational training with the intentions of breaking this cycle.
Another strategy for ending this cycle is through their annual weekend summer camp at the end of August. The camp focuses on three main goals.
- Mentoring youth in developing life goals to become a productive member of society
- Afirming youth of their worth and value
- Encouraging a relationship with God through daily devotionals
- Building a community among the youth that fosters teamwork and lifelong relationships
Through this page, I am working with a group of volunteers to raise money for this Youth Camp. We hope that you consider sponsoring a youth (ages 11-18yrs) to attend this 3-day educational summer camp. The children in the youth program live in impoverished neighborhoods and cannot afford to pay their summer camp fees. Unfortunately, the foundation does not have the resources to cover these fees either, and is depending on donations to make this camp a success. It costs $64 per youth to attend the weekend camp.
This cost includes:
We would like to raise enough donations to sponsor 60 children by Friday, July 11th, 2014. Any dollar amount of donations is greatly appreciated. Also any donations we collect surpassing the $3,840 needed for the camp will directly benefit the Youth Program of the Rahab Foundation. The extra donations raised will provide resources for the children such as clothing, food, and other daily necessities. Please let us know if you have any questions regarding our fundraising project, the youth camp, or the Rahab Foundation or go directly to the foundation's website: http://www.fundacionrahabcr.org/
