Soyina Johnson Memorial Fund

Soyina Runako Johnson, devoted mother, beloved wife, and inspiring educator, peacefully passed away on September 2, 2015 in her home in Penn Hills, Pennsylvania at the age of 43.
Soyina was born on June 15, 1972 to parents Barbara and Jerome Williams. After graduating from Penn Hills High School, Soyina went on to earn a degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. Soyina married Ed Johnson, her kindred spirit, and together they had two sons and a daughter. She dedicated her career to teaching and encouraging a love for science and math. As a former praised athlete and health and fitness enthusiast, Soyina also had a passion for coaching and mentoring young athletes.
She is survived by her parents, Barbara and Jerome Williams; husband, Ed Johnson; children, Din Nkosi Johnson (age 13), Jos Nkosi Johnson (age 9), and Elon Nkosi Johnson (age 5); and siblings, Nneka Hart (Rahmon Hart), Dr. Kwame Williams, and Rashida Edwards (Daniel Edwards). She is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Bessie and William Smiley; and paternal grandparents, Katie and Anderson Williams.
In honor of Soyina’s unwavering love for her children, her family has established a memorial fund to support the goals and aspirations of her children. In lieu of flowers, you are encouraged to contribute to this fund.
