Fundraiser for Reparations for African-Americans
Organized by: Anita Belle
This fundraiser accompanies the petition to President Obama for an executive order that studies reparations to African Americans through a National Jubilee Lottery. Please sign the petition at www.reparationslaborunion.org/eopetition.
The Reparations Labor Union seeks $26 million in voluntary reparations during President Barack Obama's term in office. This amount of money will be used to privately fund H.R. 40, the bill Detroit (Michigan) Congressman John Conyers has introduced into the House Judiciary Committee ever since 1989. Private funding permits President Obama to authorize the study of reparations via an executive order. Furthermore, private funding provides the seed money with which to raise more money for voluntary reparations through a National Jubilee Lottery.
If half of all African Americans signed the petition for reparations via an executive order and gave $1.00 to this cause, we would have enough signatures to make the White House address reparations, and enough seed money to fund the study of reparations and the National Jubilee Lottery. However, even though private individuals are welcome to contribute toward the initial $26 million, the Reparations Labor Union will seek donations from corporations that profited off of the enslavement and plundering of Africans, particularly those corporations that received federal bailouts or other corporate welfare, approved by political representatives elected by black constituents and/or financed by black taxpayers.
