What makes a great Volunteering for Charity Idea?

Volunteering for charity can be incredibly powerful, especially when done in conjunction with a crowdfunding campaign. Because while it is one thing to ask people to donate to a cause that means something to you, it is a whole different thing if you tell people that you support them by crowdfunding but also by volunteering your time for them. As time is one of the greatest things that you can give someone, letting people know that you’re doing double duty will let them know that you are incredibly serious about this cause - and will likely lead them to support your efforts, whether through money or fundraising on your behalf. And if you’re looking for the right cause to align yourself with, check out our Explore Causes page to find your match.

July 16th was one of the happiest days of my life – my wedding. As my beautiful bride, Lisa, was walking down the aisle toward me...on the exact same day on the other side of the world, hundreds of families were walking toward a refugee camp. They were being evacuated, once again and shuffled around a country that is not their own.  For our honeymoon, we want to help.  With the CrowdRise 24-Hour Impact Project, we traveled to Vasilika Refugee Camp in Northern Greece.  It's an old, abandoned warehouse converted into barracks with tents for 1200 refugees. There, we met two sisters, Helena and Elena, who opened our hearts to the reality of the crisis.  These young girls had endured so much, fleeing Syria with their family, crossing by foot into Turkey, and then by boat into Greece.  They've been trapped at borders, slept outside in the rain, spent their life savings, and still have no security for their future.   Next to Vasilika, a group of European volunteers heard the cry of Helena and Elena, and...

Sean and Maria are heading to Haiti with Centerpoint Church to provide relief through Forward Edge. Our team will work with a local pastor to help rebuild homes and serve at a local school. The 7.0 earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12, 2010 killed more than 200,000 people, and left countless children orphaned. Many displaced families still live in tents or damaged sheet-metal homes. And now, over 6 years later, hurricane Matthew has spread destruction to the little rebuilt Haiti claiming over 800 lives in its wake. We can't sit idly by anymore. Would you partner with us to provide relief and hope to families in Haiti? Together we can respond to this disaster in action and faith, spreading the hope of Christ along the way.

All I want for my birthday is...   For my 30th birthday, I'm going to Ethiopia (my favorite country in Africa!) with the CrowdRise 24-Hour Impact Project.  I want to empower 30 Ethiopian women to start their own businesses. These women live in a small impoverished village called Chapa and currently have no source of income.  They have been begging for employment opportunities, so they can buy food for their families, send their children to school, and start to pull themselves out of poverty.    On my birthday, I’ll have 24 hours to raise $30,000.  The very next day, I'll help these women begin working!  I'll provide job training, financial management classes, equipment, materials -- and everything they need to run a sustainable business.  I’ll film the entire process so you can see the direct, immediate result.   I first visited Ethiopia in 2012, and it instantly became my favorite country in Africa.  The people are BEAUTIFUL and in so much...

For my Bar Mitzvah project I am raising money for Solar panels and battery for the Kay Espwa 4 orphanage in Saint Marc, Haiti. Here's why: We went to visit the orphanage this past June. It was a scary night. As we were driving through the town, a lot of the people gave us evil stares, or gave us the finger. We stopped and got out of the bus and walked quickly up some dark stairs to find about twenty kids huddled on benches under a single dim, flickering lightbulb. We didn't speak creole, so a lot of the adults were just smiling and handing out presents. The kids just seemed scared. That's when I grabbed a bunch of balloons and a small pump and started making balloon animals. I don't know if it was the balloon animals, or the fact that it was a kid their age making them, but my dad says the the room changed and the kids began to act like kids. With your help, I plan to raise $4,000 to install solar panels and a battery system in the orphanage. This will mean they won’t have to depend on the electric company...

Hello family and friends! I am very excited to announce that I have just accepted a volunteer-based fellowship with a non-profit organization called Saha Global. I will be traveling to Ghana to establish a clean water system in a rural village near the city of Tamale. From December 28th to January 18th, I will be facilitating local women in installing and operating a water purification business that will provide clean drinking water to the entire village. One particularly awesome statistic about Saha is that, out of the 78 water businesses that they have started, 100% are still running today. I am proud to be working with an organization that is positively affecting so many human lives with their sustainable business/philanthropic model. It is thrilling to me to have an opportunity to work with a non-profit in this setting, as it directly aligns with my degree and what I would love to do after college. All of you guys know that I will never last at a desk job, so I’m hoping this could give me some solid experience in...

In a world where talent is equally distributed, but opportunity is not, iMentor is fighting to rebalance the odds and give every young person a fair chance to realize their dreams. We need your support to make college a reality for all students. We match every student in our partner high schools with a college-educated mentor. We then equip every mentor with the tools and support they need to effectively guide their mentees toward college success. We have all had individuals who have made an impact in our lives and with your help we can help iMentor continue to grow and reach more NYC students. Every dollar makes a difference. It costs iMentor $1,000 to provide one mentor-mentee pair with access to iMentor’s proven college success curriculum and resources. Here is what your support can do for New York City’s students: $25 allows a mentee to attend a year of iMentor events 100 supplies a mentee with a year's access to monthly career and college preparation events $500 provides a college application...

This Christmas our family has decided to do something different and show our 5-year-old twins the true meaning of the season is to GIVE. We will be traveling to Greece spending 2 weeks volunteering with Syrian, Iraqi and Afghan refugees. Our focus is helping refugee children and bringing them a bit of comfort and joy on their journey to a better life. Katie and I will be helping the US-based organization "Carry the Future" fitting mothers/fathers with baby carriers (Ergos/Baby Bjorn, Mei Tais, etc)as they arrive off the ferry port in Athens. Max and Sebastian will be handing out "Kid Joy" bags to refugee children. Your donations will help us buy necessary items, on the ground in Greece, to create our "Kid Joy" bags. These bags will contain: small toys, crayons, drawing pad, stickers, balloons, snack bars, fresh fruit, water, juice box, socks, mittens, and a hat. The weather in Greece is cold and the journey north through the Balkans will be absolutely freezing. These families have left...

BENEFITING: KUSEWERA THE STORY: Malawi, Africa: May 13 – 24, 2016 - Malawi is a small, landlocked country in southeast Africa. It is known as the “Warm Heart of Africa” with a population of over 16 million. It is among the worlds least-developed countries, and relies heavily on outside aid. This beautiful country has worked hard to make changes and empowering and educating children is a key to their future. There is an estimated 800,000 orphans in Malawi due to HIV/Aids, famine and other causes, who need shelter, nutrition, education and love. Kusewera is working to do what we can to empower these kids and young adults through various projects in Malawi. My journey will be working with children in the Chitipi area of Lilongwe and at the Jacaranda School in Blantyre. What started as a personal project has developed into a long term vision. I not only want to raise funds to go there, I want to raise money to be able to bring them crayons so they can create their vision. I want to bring soccer balls so...
