The three Lauria children lost their father a few years ago to a sudden heart attack. At that time, the mom took off, leaving the oldest child, Susie, to care of her younger siblings (then ages 16, and 12). Susie was preparing to go away to Medical School in Hawaii (which she was accepted to) and was forced to change her plans to care for her brother and sister. If that wasn't hard enough, the middle child, (sister) had a difficult time handling the departure of both her parents. Francis started self-medicating to ease the pain. Last week, she collapsed and slipped into a coma. She was in a deep, deep, deep coma, partially brain-dead, and on life support until Monday night when she passed away. Her older sister and younger brother were by her side, until they were forced to make the dreaded decision about her future. In the meantime, Susie (who financially supports her siblings herself) is unable to work, and will undoubtedly have added expenses due to the situation (burial fees, etc.). With no family to assist, we are turning to the kindness, generosity and compassion of friends, co-workers, and strangers who can see the importance of helping this family through this tragic time.
