BENEFITING: FURRY FRIENDS FOSTER AND RESCUE INC
THE STORY:
Furry Friends Foster and Rescue is an approved 501(c)(3) foster based rescue, located in CT. Our rescue was founded in February, 2014. Since then we have rescued, treated medically, and rehabilitated well over 200 dogs (and a few cats). Our mission as a rescue is to help the dogs who need us the most - those needing substantial medical care, training and behavioral work, and those at risk of euthanasia. We bring dogs into the rescue primarily from pounds local to CT. We do occasionally help dogs from outside of our geographic area, when they are in dire need, and when we have the room and ability to help them. We also accept private owner surrenders when we have room in the rescue - however, we always try first to work with the family in any way we can to allow them to keep their dog in their home.
Our rescue is made up of a group of amazingly dedicated people - Board members, volunteers, and fosters all dedicate their time and talent to our dogs, and those still waiting for our help.
We will do whatever is necessary to help an animal, consistent with quality of life and the best medical advice. In 2016 we raised funds for heart surgery for one such dog. Ramsey had come into our rescue in 2015 and, once in our rescue, we discovered he had a heart condition called pulmonic stenosis, which is congenital - the valve leading from the pulmonic artery to the right ventricle of the heart was constricted and would not allow sufficient blood flow. Without the surgery, our guy Ramsey would have had a very short life and the quality of his life would have deteriorated rapidly. We raised over $5,000 and in August, 2016 he underwent baloon valvulopasty at Tufts Veterinary Hospital (it's pretty much the same procedures as they do on people - a catheter with a baloon on the end is threaded through to the valve - the balloon is then inflated to stretch the opening). The surgery was successful! Ramsey is now living a wonderful life with a terrific forever family, and can look forward to a normal life span, with no restrictions on his activity. He is the tan pit bull with the big smile shown in the first picture in our slide show.
Ramsey is just ONE dog out of many who we have helped, through medical care and/or training, to have the opportunity to live their lives as happy, balanced dogs as part of wonderful families.
We cannot do this without support! As a small non-profit rescue, we are largely dependent upon donations from animal lovers like you to be able to fulfill and expand our mission.
Won't you please join us? No one - no individual and no rescue - can do this by themselves, but together the large and vocal village of animal advocates on social media can make a HUGE difference to these deserving animals.
Your donation in any amount will help us to continue to help them!
