So I learned long ago that there's no such thing as a self made man, that we are all dependent on the assistance of others for whatever success or happiness we are fortunate enough to enjoy. I was reminded recently that this applies to endurance events as well. None of us compete individually. It takes the support of many to cross the finish line.
For way too many, their "marathon" is unfortunately a fight against cancer. Throughout the past few years, cancer has directly impacted those in our family and some of our dearest friends. We've seen firsthand the struggle and realize the importance of research as a key component in the fight.
To honor some really incredible...and brave...and amazing...and powerful...and courageous...and inspirational people (you know who you are) I've decided to raise some serious cashe for the V Foundation as part of my training journey for the Chicago Marathon. Just as I'm unable to finish the race without a "little help from my friends," cancer research organizations need the generous support of people like you to continue the amazing work they are doing. Cancer can be something we read about in history books someday, but this will take research and research takes money. Because 100% of the money donated to the V Foundation goes to cancer research (not administrative costs), I've chosen to support the organization and their journey, as I work my way toward Chicago on mine. Please consider a gift of $26.20 (or more!) to help reach our goal of $5000.00 to support the V Foundation and the incredible work they do in search of a cure. (BTW, if something completely ridiculous happens and we break $10,000, I'll do this again next year.)
THANKS in advance for joining me on this journey. I'm humbled by and grateful for your support and generosity.
PS - It's completey acceptable if you tell all your friends, family, coworkers, former teachers, bosses, neighbors, and any rando on the street about this effort. There's no way we can do this without the support of those way outside my "circle." So call, text, tweet, and post away. LET'S MAKE A MEMORY!
