BENEFITING: HUMBOLDT BAY MARITIME MUSEUM
The Humboldt Bay Maritime Museum is trying to earn enough money to save and restore a local historical fishing vessel to educate, inspire, and preserve maritime history. I am hoping to help assist with their goal of $50,000.
The F/V Stephanie was launched in 1917 and fished the Pacific Ocean until her retirement in the early 2000's, when her fishing permit was sold back to the Federal Government. The Stephanie was then sold, and abandoned at the Eureka Public Marina and her fate was grim. Captain Cody Hills has loved the Stephanie since he was 12. He has watched over her during storms, pumped her out, bought her new fenders and gave her all the love he could, but even his love was not enough to keep the wooden boat from rotting and slowly sinking into the bay.
The Humboldt Bay Maritime Museum along with the City of Eureka, Zerlang & Zerlang Maririme Services, and Captain Cody Hills have worked together along side numerous volunteers to keep the Stephanie afloat. Now it is time to help restore this historic vessel to the beauty she once was.
When done she will become part of the Humboldt Bay Maritime Museum and open for dockside tours, along with hopeful one day going on educational charters around and outside of Humboldt Bay.
