The Greening Youth Foundation’s (GYF) mission is to work with diverse, underserved and underrepresented children, youth and young adults in an effort to develop and nurture enthusiastic and responsible environmental stewards. GYF’s cultural based environmental education programing engages children from local communities and exposes them to healthy lifestyle choices in order to create an overall healthy community. GYF believes that youth and young adults from diverse backgrounds can greatly benefit from the career opportunities presented within the state and federal land management sectors. Accordingly, GYF continues to develop and strengthen partnerships with land management agencies to provide service and internship opportunities for youth and young adults thereby creating pathways to conservation careers.
Through the Public School Intiative, GYF connects with youth to educate them about the environment and how they can make a difference in protecting it. Our programming is incorporated through a few different ways. We work with students every day, every week, to bring fun and engaging activities centered around environmental science and conservation. In addition, we work with local professionals in the fields of STEM, Conservation, Environmental Science and other similar fields, who volunteer their time to come interact with our students through our Green Speakers series. Students enjoy this because they are able to talk to and interact with people that exemplify possible future careers for these youth.
Lastly, students connect what they learn in a classroom setting to field trips. All of our students get the opportunity to go explore nature and animals to help them build the bridge between what they learn, and what is in nature. The Greening Youth Foundation seeks to bring underserved youth to nature and the outdoors to help cultivate an experience and love they will never forget.
