Gabriel is an active six year old and he especially loves to ski. On February 8th, 2014 he hit a tree and fractured his skull while wearing a helmet and skiing safely in an approved area. We apologize for the graphic nature of these pictures but we want to emphasize how critical this accident is.
The ski patrol moved swiftly and he was airlifted to Children's Hospital where he underwent surgery to reconstruct his skull. Through the expert care of the staff at Children's, his physical prognosis is good.
Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI), have long term consequences and Gabe will be in therapy for a long time. This incident has affected his normal development; such as his fear of riding a bike.
Financially, it is a different story. Even with insurance, the costs of a ten day hospital stay and follow up therapies and extra day care are financially crippling to his parents. Bankruptcy is a very real possibility.
Please share want you can to keep this family financially healthy as Gabriel heals and works hard to return to his active, athletic and healthy self.
