Grunwald Associates has been a core partner in the US Department of Education's Connected Educators initiative since its inception as well as a core partner in Connected Educator Month (CEM) from day 1. From our team's formative experiences (one of us was a teenage campaign organizer, another a counselor at a 100+ year old camp and a teacher in a West African village), we've had the values of community ingrained long before we ever went online. The Internet adds new dimensions to community's power, and we've donated thousands of hours of our time over the years to the cause of online communities in education. Connected Educator Month, a month-long online celebration of educational communities that takes place in October and includes hundreds of events and activities, has been an honor to contribute to.
Too often our educators are isolated in their classrooms even from the support of others in their own buildings, let alone the myriad opportunities for professional development and student achievement made possible by educational networks and communities that connect educators around the world.
What Your Support Will Do
Donating to Connected Educator Month will allow CEM to support connected education year round, develop a variety of tools and resources to help the less-connected get engaged (the US Department of Education has often called CEM the professional development arm of its ConnectED initiative), and foster innovation in the field.
In its brief history so far, CEM reached 4 million educators and others around the world in 2012; 14+ million in 2013, providing hundreds of thousands of hours of professional development opportunities along the way. Imagine what it could do if it continued to engage educators all year, instead of only for a month, if October was a culmination and launching pad, not the beginning and the end.
