"Gaige's Fund" eCS Kids Colorado & Missouri

EVENT DATE: Apr 04, 2016

Many are familiar with the work Cannabis Patient Network Institute, a small Colorado NPO that precedes The eCS Therapy Center; providing cannabis oil to the terminally ill.  Over the course of the past three years, we were shocked to find we’ve accumulatively given away nearly $200,000 in cannabis oil while never having more than $15,000 a year on which to operate.  We’d like to replicate that in a model that is more familiar to patients, social service agencies, health care providers, and pharmacies.

In short, under the umbrella of The eCS Therapy Center we’re launching eCS Kids, state-specific fundraising platforms.  Each eCS Kids Program will have a local volunteer advisory board responsible for developing acceptable programs and administering funds in accordance with state regulations and guidelines.  Because eCS Therapy is an NPO independent of cannabis industry ownership, we will operate these programs like other social service agencies administer support to patients in need.

Since Connie Milburn joined The eCS Therapy Center Board of Directors she's said she often wonders why she was placed on our Board given the research imminence of other members.  However, eCS Kids is the reason we're so blessed to have Connie helping build The eCS Therapy Center.    It has long been a vision to offer services to families or terminally ill adults in need.  Historically there has been "no place" a patient could turn for assistance; CPNI just couldn’t service enough people!

eCS Kids is a fundraising and awareness branch of The eCS Therapy Center that will develop programs and administer the programs much as social service agencies focused on other health issues (e.g. epilepsy, cancer, breast cancer) assist patients in their community.

Committees of advocates, parents, and patients will help fund raise and distribute funds within the community they are intended.

Gaige's Fund will be led by Connie, along with Jasmine Stevens, Gaige's mother.  Funds raised under “Gaige's Fund” will be distributed as follows in Missouri and Colorado:

As with all eCS Kids “Funds,” financial contributions provided in this category will be earmarked specifically for medical cannabis related costs which are the responsibility of the patient, caregiver, or patient (registration, physician costs, or other related expenses).  Though funds will be reserved toward pediatric patients, some terminally ill or severely disabled adults may also receive assistance with related expenses as directed by the state advisory committee members.

15% of all collected funds will be retained by eCS Therapy for the general fund, this helps support the greater organization so that we can successfully administer all donations.  85% of the budget will be earmarked for the dedicated territory for which the fund is designed and states may request funds from eCS USA for patients in need.

Currently, all funds will be administered from Colorado; however, as we gain Charity approval in other states, funds will be administered locally.  A quarter of these dedicated funds will be earmarked for FREE public educational activities within local communities and educational outreach to public schools and health departments.  All remaining funds, will be applied directly to assisting patients with costs associated with their state’s medical cannabis program.  Each state’s advisory team will seek to enact a voucher program so that patient’s may legally access and obtain medical cannabis with funds raised to support children and terminally ill adults in need.  Quarterly reports will be generated by each committee to ensure funds are appropriately accounted for and applied.
