BENEFITING: AFRICA SCHOOLHOUSE FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Apr 17, 2012
HOURS PLEDGED: 450
Currently, there are approximately 2.4 million malnourished children in Tanzania, making it one of the top three affected countries in Africa. Providing school children with one clean, nutritious meal a day can help combat malnutrition and improve education, as children have trouble focusing and retaining information when they are hungry. With this in mind, the main goal of our project is to implement a self-sufficient garden and lunch program at the Ntulya Government Primary School, founded by Africa Schoolhouse. This program must be economically and environmentally sustainable so that after its implementation it does not require annual donations or exhaust the community’s resources and can instead be maintained locally. We hope that this program will serve as a model for other local schools to improve nutrition through education.
