It’s time for the 2012 New York Marathon!
My name is Garrett Neff and I’m a model with Wilhelmina Models. I’ve been modeling for about 7 years, traveling all over the world and working with many top members of the fashion industry. My busy schedule and travel itinerary don’t always allow for much opportunity at the gym so to keep healthy, fit and clear headed, I spend time running through parks and streets in cities worldwide. I’ve always had a passion for health and fitness, something instilled in me since childhood. Growing up in Delaware, a primarily suburban setting, I had access to many outdoor activities and appreciate how one benefits from time outside exercising and that is why I have decided to run for the City Parks Foundation of New York.
Among other ways, the city parks across Manhattan have now served as my training grounds, as I diligently train to complete this race with the help of Wilhelmina fitness model and marathon trainer, Andy Speer.
This will be my first time running the New York City Marathon and I’m very excited to run for such a wonderful cause, and one I'm so passionate about, here's what they do:
(CPF) works in over 750 parks all across New York City! They do all kinds of great things like Summer Stage, work with schools and kids on environmental education, help community groups organize support for their local parks and they also run all kinds of sports and fitness programs for seniors. In total they serve more than 600,000 people each and every year!
I am running in support of their sports and fitness programs which provide 13,000 New York City kids with FREE tennis, golf, and track and field instruction. These sports engage kids over the summer when they have down time from school and other activities. One of the things that have also impressed me is that many program participants have secured college scholarships because of what they learned with CPF and an even select few have gone on to play professional sports. I know these programs are changing lives. Before I forget – not only do they serve kids, they also serve seniors. Getting them out into the parks and active with tennis, yoga and fitness walking.
There you have it. Now it's your turn, as my friends, peers or fellow sport and health enthusiasts; please help support our parks and the futures of those who need a place to develop the skills learned in these programs. Please consider making a donation today to The City Parks Foundation by clicking 'DONATE.' You'd be doing an amazing thing!
Go one step further and click 'CREATE YOUR OWN FUNDRAISING PAGE' to help me fundraise for this cause. You can become a team member for this project and spread the word to your own friends and family. Just think of the impact we could have if we donate and then ask 10 of our friends to donate too.
Wish me luck finishing the 26.2-mile run through all 5 Manhattan boroughs and passing the many communities who will benefit from our generosity. Thanks again.
