Gary's Championed Children's Cause
Organized by: Gary Dent
With the emotional plea and due diligence, I have decided to do this because I think I have reached a point in my life where I am faced with my hardest moment and most serene battle. I am desperately trying to find a way to "beat the odds" by not allowing my son and daughter to become statics or reflections of societal norms. After a tragic divorce, separation, and bitter custody dispute, my children have now become entrapped in an uncompromising and all too familiar situation. I am an educator, mentor, and surrogate father to so many at-risk children. The treachery trials and obstacles they face often leads to generational stereotypes due to male parental abandonment leaving African American youth with lives not aligned to best practices of society (drugs, crime, teen pregnancy etc.) I have been torn if I should indeed partake in willful abandonment or adhere to the scripture that says, “Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever." (I Timothy 5:8). I have chosen the latter! I believe strongly in the structure and specific task of a male being the priest, provider, and protector of his home. Therefore; I have swallowed any discretionary pride and humbly submit this link for you to consider helping me continue championing the children's cause. After attaining poor legal counsel that is now being investigated for criminal and ethical violations, maintaining custody of my children through a competent attorney is now a task requiring great due diligence and in need of extended support and help. I am determined to be within the lives of my children inevitability providing for them. I am in immediate need of legal funding as we had to completely start over, and now that the custody is being utterly disputed. I don't want to lose the stability, structure, and provisions I have in place for them. I have maintained custody thus far and respectfully ask that you enable me to continue to rear my biological children in a stable, structured, and standard home as I have done for so many surrogates through my work in education. I don’t qualify for legal aid as I am a working professional; however the immediate responsibilities of providing for my children lead me to impress upon you.
