BENEFITING: International Rescue Committee
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
Thank you for stopping by this page, and for your consideration to help with this great cause. If you are like me, you are devastated by what is happening in Syria right now. Just as I am writing this, reports are coming in of a school in Haas that was hit by airstrikes, killing 35 innocent civilians, including teachers and many children. In the past weeks hospitals and medical centers were destroyed by similar attacks. We cannot sit idly as innocent people are caught in the deadly crossfire of politicians' war. We cannot take our homely comforts for granted and look away, as more than half of an entire nation's population (11 million people) are killed or displaced as their own homeland is ravaged by war.
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is committed to providing "lifesaving support to over 1.4 million people—half of them children—who are struggling to survive a brutal war". They have medical teams throughout the country providing primary, reproductive, and trauma care. For every dollar you give to IRC, 90% goes directly to programs helping refugees and others in desperate need. Donations will go on to help Syria, Iraq and other refugee crises around the world. They have the highest ratings from charity watch groups including, Charity Navigator and Charity Watch.
Earlier this summer, I had a life-changing moment when I decided to pursue a hobby of running and competing in triathlons (despite avidly despising running in previous years, and never having been much of an athlete). On November 6, I will be running my first race, the Princeton Half-Marathon. I dedicate this run to the innocent people suffering in Syria, and the refugees who have been displaced from their homes. The goal is to raise $100 for every mile I will run in this race. Thank you again for taking the time to read this and for considering to donate to a cause that is very much in need.
P.S. At the end of the race I will personally donate $1 for every minute it takes me to finish the race.
P.P.S. If we reach double the goal amount, I will sign-up for a marathon race next year dedicated to the same/similar cause :)
