Jean Dewitt's Fundraiser:

Have had this idea for awhile, so now I'm going to take some action. GASGAD stands for "Give a Smile, Give a Damn." What I want to do is get local dentists to agree to take on 2 patients each month that they will give FREE dental work to. (Most dentists can afford to do that much.) Then I will build a list of people that I know need dental work that can't afford it and route them to the various dentists. I already have several people on the list.

It's always heart breaking to see people that have their teeth is a state of disrepair, and I still remember an episode of 10 Years Younger where this gentleman was actually using Super Glue to hold in the few teeth he had left. Once he was fitted with his new dentures his smile (which was coming from the inside out) was a sheer joy to behold.

People take their teeth for granted and are frequently uneducated regarding how important it is to care for your teeth. But our teeth are what we use to eat and stay strong, in addition to what we use to communicate. When people are missing front teeth, they are too embarrassed to smile or express themselves freely. And when they are missing back teeth they're reduced to living off things they cannot chew. That man on 10 Years Younger was rail thin.

It would be wonderful if I could gather a group of people that are willing to send out letters or go talk with those dentists in their local areas and get dentists on board with this. I've already drafted a letter to dentists asking them to be part of this charity, so if anyone wants to use that letter to send to their local dentists I could email it to you.

Of course I could take the route of taking donations and routing the monies to those people that are in need of dental care by giving them gift certificates to local dentists, but I'm of the mindset that this might be another route to take--connected those in need with the dentists.

I'm not sure how to proceed with this, but I'm open to all suggestions. At this point I'm not making it a 501(c)3 "official" non-profit organization, but if I get enough people interested then I might.

I'd love to hear your ideas and opinions!
