There are so many people we know running different events for so many deserving causes - so first and foremost, thanks for reading my request, I really appreciate anything you can do to help the Greater Boston Food Bank.
Through my work - life has become food. I'm around it all day everyday, whether down on the Farm or at the Restaurant. When I first met the committed people at the Food Bank - I couldn't believe the extent of hunger issues in Massachusetts. I wanted to help. At Island Creek Oysters, we've long supported the Food Bank, now, I'm taking the support one step further in an effort to raise enough money for 25,000 meals this year through running the Boston Marathon.
Here is what you need to know:
The Greater Boston Food Bank serves as many as 545,000 people annually. It is the largest hunger relief organization in New England. They donate over 36.7 million pounds of food and grocery products to 550 hunger relief agencies throughout New England. It is truly an a monumental, unrelanting, undertaking.
I'm trying to raise $10,000 for this amazing organization.
Every dollar you donate equals 2.5 meals for those seeker hunger relief. If we can raise $10,000 - that is 25,000 meals for people not getting enough to eat.
If you donate $25 - that's 63 meals for families in New England.
If you donate $100 - that's 250 meals.
If you donate $500 - that's 1250 meals.
Running 26.2 miles is a great accomplishment. However, its small potatoes to providing a great organization with $10,000 to feed those in need.
As you consider making a donation over your next meal, please know this is not an isolated problem. With the downturn in the economy, and people suffering everywhere, 1 in 9 is at risk of hunger in our communities. That is a staggering figure.
I greatly appreciate your support.
