Jim Fantini's Fundraiser:

I am once again running the NYC Marathon for the Glen Doherty Memorial Foundation. Last year, through the generosity of friends and family, I raised $11,000, all of which went to current and former Special Ops to help them transition back into civilian life. Like Glen, these men and women willingly put themselves into harm's way to protect our freedom. It is the least we can do to not simply welcome them home but to help them succeed. Our appreciation should be a tangible gift to them.

One of my goals in running, besides not bonking out after 14 miles and limping to the finish, is to raise awareness of Glen in his hometown of Winchester. As the events of that night in Benghazi have become fuel for political division, we need to remember the people who lost their lives and those they left behind whose lives were forever changed. Nicole, GG and I moved here in April of 2013 and it didn't take us long to get wind of the fact that this man who we'd recently been reading about had grown up in town. We got involved with the GDMF race and when the opportunity came to run NYC last year as part of his team, I jumped at the chance.

Through that experience I feel that I have come to know Glen.

This foundation is run by his family and friends and if it is true that a man can be defined by those he surrounds himself with, then Glen was all of those things most of us would love to be: loving, funny, fearless, loyal, kind, sensitive and tough as nails. He also gave his life to save others. Those he died for were not his family or his best friends, but they were people in grave danger and he thought nothing of running to them.

He is the epitome of the word Hero.

Please help me as I help his family and friends keep his name alive through the foundation.
