BENEFITING: GIRLS EDUCATIONAL AND MENTORING SERVICES INC
EVENT DATE: Nov 24, 2015
Girls Educational and Mentoring Services (GEMS) is the only organization in New York State designed to serve girls and young women who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation and domestic trafficking. GEMS was founded in 1998 by Rachel Lloyd in response to an overwhelming need for services for at risk girls and young women who were being ignored by traditional social service agencies. GEMS’ programming is gender responsive, social justice oriented, and culturally competent and its founding principles reside in survivor leadership and transformational relationships.
In 2014, GEMS provided intensive services and support to 371 girls and young women, these services include holistic case management, educational initiatives, youth development, housing, and court advocacy.
Additionally, in 2015, GEMS staff trained over 1,000 professionals on our "CSEC 101" curriculum and over 270 individuals on our Victim, Survivor, Leader curriculum.
We hope you will join us in our effort to create a better world for girls! Check out the benchmarks below to consider how you can make an impact:
- $50 offsets transportation for a GEMS member to and from school for a week.
