BENEFITING: GENERATION ALIVE
ORGANIZER: GENERATION ALIVE
EVENT: San Francisco Marathon 2014
EVENT DATE: Jul 26, 2015
Dear friends and family,
I think I'm a little bit crazy to be running another marathon this year (it will be my third one) but when I heard about this fundraiser to raise awareness and activate the youth towards serving the poor and the most disadvantaged amongst us, I felt compelled to jump in and run this marathon again in the city that has been my home for over 20 years.
That there is extreme poverty here in the Bay Area and all over the world isn't really news to us unfortunately. What makes this effort unique for me is the involvement of Jonathan Gunderson, an ultra-marathoner, and the SF Giants' Reliever Jeremy Affeldt. Knowing Jonathan's service to the poor in Uganda through his fundraiser for building wells to provide the poor clean water and knowing that Jeremy Affeldt chooses to go out of his way to love the poor makes their partnership for this fundraiser a literal win win to raise awareness amongst our youth to love the poor through Generation Alive (GA).
Generation Alive is committed to meet the basic needs of "the least" of us in the world. From events to package meals for those who go hungry to helping build water wells in Africa, GA works in collaboration with other compassion-based organizations to see the lives of young people changed by engaging them in acts of compassion that promote justice and alleviate the pain of poverty in their generation.
They do this by awareness education and as some examples, by having:
• youth engage in hunger projects
• youth provide aid to orphans
• youth fund clean water initiatives
• youth work toward the abolishment of child slavery
• youth promote play through distribution of durable Futbol’s
I have a goal to raise $1000 and I'm almost there :)! It would be great if you could help me complete this goal. (I know many of you already give to other great organizations so thanks for taking the time here to consider giving more.)
Hope to hear from you!
Take Care, Jim
