Generocksity is a CRA registered non-profit organization that aims to educate young adults on the importance of philanthropy and how easily it can be integrated into their lives. Although our generation is often portrayed as selfish or apathetic, we believe this is an issue of poor education rather than poor intentions. At Generocksity, we believe that given the proper motivation and precise tools to take initiative, our generation can do extraordinary things. To showcase this concept, we organize concerts/parties where young adults can come together, listen to great live music and have an incredible night with 100% of proceeds benefiting local charities in their area. Now we will begin a new concept by throwing a comedy night featuring local improv and stand up comedians from the Vancouver area. We also organize workshops where young adults are given the motivation and specific tools to achieve their own philanthropic goals. In January 2015, Generocksity was the recipient of the prestigious Best of Highlighted Projects award at the Student Leadership Conference in UBC. We have also been featured on several news outlets such as Vancity Buzz, CBC Radio 1 and CBC News. Although we have only been in operation since November 2013, Generocksity has already built a credible reputation for holding tremendously fun events that significantly benefit the local community. We were able to inspire a group of students in Leiden, Holland to throw several successful Generocksity parties and have plans to expand to several universities in Eastern Canada. Our events have engaged over 3000 young adults and raised over $30,000 for local charities such as Delta Youth Support Link, Canuck Place Children’s Hospice and the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre.
