Mint Artists Guild works with high school age artists on business and professional skills, on developing career ideas and becoming "engaged, generous citizens." An all volunteer team teaches and coaches and creates opportunities to sell "fresh art from Detroit teens."
Already our artists are giving their time and their creative work to several nonprofits and show greater confidence and business savvy.
“ Mint is very important for Detroit and Detroiters to support because it will produce a lot of successful artists among the younger generation. “ – Ackeem Salmon, teen artist in Mint, 2015.
Now with your help and following the Artists for Humanity model, we plan to start a summer jobs program in our painting studio.
What: A crowd-funding campaign that creates summer jobs for creative youth, gives original art pieces to nonprofits and bakes generosity and collaboration into Mint Artists Guild and its partners.
Goal: Demonstrate generosity and connectivity between local nonprofit orgs as we launch creative careers and grow our startup nonprofit (including paying for costs of becoming a 501c3 organization).
Who: Mint will share the first nonprofit partners in an update next week. Or find clues and some names in our social media. Those pieces will be hung in nonprofit offices, homeless shelters, classrooms or used in silent auctions and fundraisers.
When: Paintings will be created mainly in July and August, and are expected to be finished and delivered by Oct. 31. If we reach our goal, we may exhibit the charity paintings and other Mint work at The Carr Center in September.
How: Generous people will give to this campaign in any amount. And for those who 'go big or go home' and donate $313 or more, Mint will give you a mini-painting. Yes, you will receive "fresh art from Detroit" (to be picked up at the art fair or another of our events). A limited supply - only 13 paintings and photographs available!
Why: Because Mint believes in creating projects that "benefit our clients, our communities and our world" and wants to launch with a collaborative generous approach. Because Mint wants generosity baked into its DNA from the start. Because generosity is beautiful! Because creative teens need good summer jobs.
