Grandma Jenny’s Training Centre provides free education to the most impoverished, local women of Karunga, Kenya, who have no skill and very poor, very little education, if any. In its first two years of operation it has empowered over 70 women to graduate with the skills of sewing, textile design, numeracy, literacy and hygiene, equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to build themselves a better future. Some of the graduating girls have not only gone on to find employment to help support themselves and their families, but have also gone on to open their own businesses, achieving dreams that were never thought possible. The women of Karunga are so proud of this institution they are already planning its expansion.
Now in its third year of operation, the school survives upon the donations of generous Gennarosity Abroad community members worldwide, however it is not yet self sufficient. All donations received by Gennarosity Abroad are used to purchase textiles, equipment, hygiene packs and all educational needs, as well as cover the cost of staff.
The charity has a business plan and is well managed and currently the making of school uniforms and the sale of them is used to partially fund its operation. It is hoped that within three years it will be self-sustainable. The long term plan for Grandma Jenny’s Training Centre is that each year it will recycle students to become teachers, and each year the students will produce more garments to sell, to bring funding back into the business. In the short term, however, we need your help to support this venture until it is fully sustainable. Every dollar donated goes to the cause, there are no administration costs taken by the charity.
We may not be able to change the whole world, but we are able to change the world for one person at a time. The more funding we receive to help Grandma Jenny's become sustainable, the more lives we can change, and what a world that would be.
