BENEFITING: Ric O'Barry's Dolphin Project, Inc.
EVENT DATE: Aug 12, 2017
After watching the very touching movie, "The Cove", I wanted to join the fund raising drive to stop yearly dolphin slaughter in Japan and other pro-dolphin activities of Ric O'Barry's Dolphin Project. In Japan the dolphins are tortured and slaughtered starting September 1 till March in Taiji. The dolphin meat has an average of 6 ppm (parts per million) when the allowed amount is .4 ppm in Japan. The meat is sold as another kind of fish because The Japanese do not like to eat dolphin meat and other meats wouldn't be suspected of having so much mercury in them. There was even a plan to use the tainted meat in school lunches all around Japan. These lunches are mandatory and the children are required to eat all of their lunch! This would have resulted in poisoning all of the school children in Japan. Mercury poisoning can cause loss of vision, hearing, speaking, and walking. Unborn babies could suffer severe developmental mutations. I geocache which involves driving, walking and searching for caches. I will start counting caches I find from July 13th to August 11th. I have found 37 caches so far this month but it did include a big caching day on the 4th of July Holiday. It is very hard to cache with such hot weather. Please pledge either a specific amount of money for each cache found or just pledge a set total amount of money(easier).
Let's do it for the Dolphins! Thanks!
