BENEFITING: BADLANDS NATURAL HISTORY ASSOCIATION INC
EVENT DATE: Nov 03, 2013
"Clearly I recall his wild enthusiasm over the Bad Lands... It had taken root in the congenial soil of his consciousness, like an ineradicable, creeping plant, as it were, to thrive and permeate it thereafter, causing him more and more to think in the broad gauge terms of nature - of the real earth." - A boy's observation of Teddy Roosevelt during his first trip to the Badlands in 1883.
I took my first trip to Badlands National Park in South Dakota in July of this year - for those of you who are unfamiliar with the Badlands, they are awesome. I was overwhelmed by the raw layers and shapes and colors that surrounded me for those days in the wilderness. For this reason, I would like to request your support by providing a donation in the amount you see fit to the Badlands Natural History Association, an entity that supports the scientific, educational, historical and interpretive activities of this great park. Recommended donations are $25 - to reach the fundraising goal of $1,000!
This wild adventure doesn't stop there though! By reaching this goal, you will directly help the Badlands National Park develop a project to use reclaimed water for native plant gardening in the Cedar Pass area. Under the project, a wind-powered pump will move treated effluent from the park's wastewater lagoon to a storage tank near the Ben Reifel Visitor Center. From there, a solar-powered pump will be used for the watering of newly-planted native species of grasses, wildflowers, and shrubs!
As a 3-year vegetarian (for environmental reasons) who loves the outdoors, this cause - while not so near - is very dear to me. I want to express my most sincere thanks for your support of my running and fundraising. For further information on the Badlands Natural History Association or the race, please don't hesitate to contact me or visit www.badlandsnha.org.
See you in New York!
