October 21, 2017
Hello friends and family,
I have the unique opportunity to do something amazing for this wonderful charity - The National Blood Clot Alliance. By bringing attention to serious medical issues related to blood clotting disorders they do amazing work every single day. Conditions such as DVT, Factor 2 Mutation and embolisms can easily lead to life threatening medical issues if symptoms aren't recognized in time.
Since this is the first year they have been selected to participate in the Marine Corp Marathon on October 22, 2017, I felt it was only appropriate to strap on my sneakers and run this marathon and raise a few dollars to show my support. Please join, help & encourage me as I tackle my first marathon ever to bring attention to these often overlooked and deadly blood clotting issues. We may just save a life together...with your generous support!
I'm running for Mary Ann, the amazing woman in my world. She carries the Factor 2 Mutation and needs to be very careful to avoid many of the complications that come with the diagnosis. She handles her condition with grace and continues to be a positive influence in my life.
I'm running because dying from a tragic blood clot can be avoided through education. I'm running to show my daughter that setting goals and pushing yourself to achieve can have rewarding consequences. I'm running for those who can't and wish they could. I'm running because the universe put this opportunity in my life. I'm running to show respect for this race, those who prepared for it, those who made it possible and for the US Marine Corp. for hosting it. Lastly, I'm running because I can and I have no idea what 2018 will bring.
As I navigate my marathon training over the next 4 months, logging 20-30 miles per week, I would simply ask you to contribute what you can. It would be truly special if my goal of $1,000 could be reached by October. Every contribution is appreciated and will be put to work right away to bring more attention to deadly blood clotting issues.
Thank you for your support today.
