Two years ago you donated to…
Two years ago you donated to our Department of Photography at George Eastman House PhotoFinish 5k fund-raising campaign. At that time, we were raising funds to conserve a painting by the Florentine artist Giacomo Martinetti held in the Eastman House Photography collection.

Sometimes we wait for the best things in life, so I'm writing to you today to let you know that I picked up the painting from the Buffalo State Art Conservation department earlier this week. Over the past two years, students and faculty mended tears, cleaned the painting and removed the old varnish, which had yellowed and was obscuring the vibrant colors. Today, it is beautifully restored and back in the vaults of the museum.

Next up we will use the remaining funds from the 2012 campaign to frame the work, protecting it from future damage. And, hopefully, in the future it will be on display at the museum as well.

I'm grateful to everyone who gave to the campaign in 2012. Your donations are doing great things for the Eastman House collection!

Best wishes,
Jamie M. Allen

PS - If you can't remember the painting, my colleague Joe Struble wrote a blog about it prior to conservation. That can be found at:

Thanks again for donating to the Southworth & Hawes @ George Eastman House campaign. So far we have raised $3451! Again, it is because of individuals like you that institutions like George Eastman House are able to care for significant cultural objects such as these American treasures. The campaign ends November 2nd!

Some of you I have not had an opportunity to thank, and some of you I've thanked several times over the course of the past few weeks. At any rate, thanks to our now 47 fantastic donors (that is you) the Southworth & Hawes at George Eastman House team has raised $3001! That is 120% of our goal!

I'm so grateful to each and every donor who has supported us and thankful for each of my fantastic teammates that allowed us to surpass our goal.

The race is tomorrow and donations may still roll in, so don't be surprised when you receive another moment of thanks from me sometime next week.

Best wishes,

Dear Donors –
This is one of the many moments of THANKS you will receive from me.
I'm pleased to report that we are 25% of the way to our fundraising goal for the Southworth & Hawes project at George Eastman House.
This is thanks to your support! Without you, institutions like ours could not do the superb things that we do!
In honor of each you, I’m posting details of the magnificent daguerreotypes that you have supplied housings materials for on our crowdrise page. It only allows me 10 at a time (and there are more of you than those slots allow). See if you can guess which one I picked just for you (no, honestly, I picked an image for each of you so that when I see it in our vault I’ll know that you provided the materials needed to care for it).
Here is the link to the page: http://www.crowdrise.com/dopgeh2013/fundraiser/jamieallen
Thanks again, and tell your friends that I’ll pick an image in honor of them too if they want to donate too!
Best wishes,

Thank you so much for your generous donation to Crosby’s Fund. We know that there are countless worthy causes asking for your support every day, so we are incredibly grateful that you choose Crosby’s Fund.

Private fundraising is critical for pediatric cancer research, because only 3% of federal cancer funding is allocated to childhood cancers. Too many children are dying every day, because of the lack of new treatments and therapies.

It’s amazing that in just 2 years we have been able to help hire a full time neuroblastoma researcher at Golisano Children’s Hospital for a 3 year term and fund a seed grant to a nationally renowned researcher at Wilmot Cancer Center. We are currently in the process of identifying our next research project to fund.

We cannot thank you enough for helping us carry on Crosby’s fight. He was incredibly brave, loving and funny. We want to help other families watch their children grow up instead of plan funerals and write obituaries. It’s got to stop!

We feel blessed to have the support of so many friends and family. Thank you for caring about Crosby, our family and all children facing cancer. We hope to see you at the 5K and post race party at Mendon Ponds on October 5th!

Lots of love,
Zoe, Kevin, Kassidy, Lola & Davis

A much belated thank you to everyone for making the PhotoFinish 5K a huge success again this year! Thank you to the participants, the donors and the fundraisers - and some of you did all 3! It was a special day being surrounded by friends and family while we walked or ran in memory of Crosby.

You all have helped us endure the last two years and without your support and love we never could have done it. You have also allowed us to carry on Crosby's fight against neuroblastoma by donating.

To date we have raised just over half a million dollars! It's simply amazing. Crosby would be so proud. We have to keep it up, so other children don't have to suffer like he did. We have to dream big!

Thank you so much.

Love,
Zoe, Kevin, Kassidy, Lola and Davis

Thank you again for donating to the Department of Photographs as we worked to provide some extra care for a couple of our collection items. We were able to raise 54% of our goal, so the work is not over yet, but we have the funds in place to conserve the painting and are well on our way to taking the double daguerreotype to the conservator too! Your generosity and support are much appreciated!
