EVENT DATE: Sep 10, 2016
On Saturday, September 10th please join me in Piedmont Park for the Teal Trot a 3 mile walk / run fundraiser for The Georgian Ovarian Cancer Alliance (GOCA). GOCA promotes awareness and action for ovarian cancer. Through the GOCA Bag of Hope program newly diagnosed ovarian cancer patients in GA are provided, free of charge, a bag filled with items of comfort and necessity (blanket, socks, water bottle , journal, hat ) to use during the ovarian cancer journey. I received the my Bag of Hope the week I was diagnosed and still use many of the items today
GOCA in collababoratoom with the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance sponsors an innovative educational program Survivors Student Teaching Students :Saving Women's Lives. Ovarian cancer patients and survivors go into the classrooms of future healthcare professionals - physicians nurse practitioners, nurses and physicians assistants to share our stories and experiences. Survivor Teaching brings the faces and voices of ovarian cancer survivors into the classroom. I participate in survivor teaching and share my personal journey to raise awareness with the future doctors and healthcare providers to increase their understanding of ovarian cancer symptoms and risk factors to diagnose the disease in its earlier, most treatable stages.
