BENEFITING: A FAMILY PLACE
This project is named in honor and memory of Gerald "Jerry" Lawson a pioneer in the video game industry.
Jerry once said: “I don’t play video games that often...most of the games that are out now — I’m appalled by them." Most are concerned with “shooting somebody and killing somebody,” he said. “To me, a game should be something like a skill you should develop — if you play this game, you walk away with something of value.”
Children have begun to rely on technology to process information for them instead of using technology as a tool to help them process information. ABFP proposes to offer a program that provides children with that "something of value" that Jerry Lawson hoped for - that exposes children to the everyday use of science, math, engineering, technology and civics, through a year-long project that requires participants to build a “greener community”. This project is designed to improve our students' performance in core academic areas and also peak their interest in pursuing careers in science, math, engineering and technology.
