We seek $25,000 to help cover Gerardo Salcedo's cancer treatment in Mexico.
In the last few days, Gerardo was found to have bladder cancer. He will need an expensive intervention in the next month or two. He also needs a Cat Scan and other tests immediately to rule out metastasis to other parts of the body. We were caught unprepared for this. He has no insurance [Update: Thanks to the trustees of the film festival where he works, he has been accepted as a patient at a special hospital, which is going to help substantially] SI ESTAS EN MEXICO, es mejor depositar o hacer transferencia a BBVA Bancomer en nombre de Gerardo Salcedo Romero. Si es por transferencia interbancaria, usas la CLABE 012 180 001079362220. Si depositas efectivo en persona, usas el número de cuenta 0107936222. Update May 13: Though he has been in radiation for a couple weeks already, Gerardo started chemo just today. This evening he feels pretty well. The cost of this phase of treatment is coming into focus: each application of cisplatin is going to cost a little over $600 pesos, or about $40USD. There will be two applications per week for a while, until he has a new set of diagnostics that will determine whether he moves on to surgery in June or continues the combined chemo/radiation a bit longer. We also just bought some anti-nausea medications that are $100 per box, but we don't know yet how much he'll use. Your donations so far have protected us from any worrying about delays due to budget problems, and from discussions about coming home on public transportation, and this is very nice.
